LL Cool J torna sulla scena hip hop dopo due anni di silenzio e intenso lavoro con “Exit 13”, un titolo che parla da solo: tredicesimo album e ultimo lavoro con l’etichetta Def Jam.
Il sempre palestrato rapper newyorkese riesce ad amalgamare bene tradizione e modernità, passando da brani classici come “This Is Ring Tone M…” e “Speed On Da Highway”, a pezzi con influeze più R’nB come “Ur Only A Customer”. L’album parte bene con la opener “Get Over Here” e alterna canzoni per le radio, “Cry”, a pezzi martellanti di cui un esempio è “You Better Watch Me”. Dopo la divertente “Baby Rock Remix”, dove Sambora gli presta chitarra e distorsore, e il già citato brano con Grandmaster Caz, il disco cala un po’ i toni per riprendersi con “Speedin On Da Highway”.
Tirando le somme il signor Smith non rischia niente, lavora di esperienza e regala diciannove tracce che accontentano tutti i suoi fans, vecchi e nuovi.
